Day 22 BF Progress

Just 2 days ago, I was worried that my milk supply is reducing & may become insufficient to meet Baby Kara's fast growing appetite.  Had the "food ration" feeling when I prepare the feeds for Baby Kara & it felt like not being about to afford the next meal "aka no food on the table feeling".

Decided to text colleagues for advice & got some motivation to perserve.  Ended up the supply increase when I pump more frequently.  Demand makes supply is really true!

Week 3 - First Blocked Nose

Baby Kara was having blocked nose since yesterday. Her breathing is much louder especially when she's eager for milk.

On close examination, there's thick sticky mucus stuck in her nostril! Daddy helped her remove the mucus & it did ease her blocked nose though it's not 100% cleared.

On Monday morning, while Baby Kara is having her milky breakfast, she sneezed & out came a huge piece of mucus. Baby Kara can breath better now.
Woohoo!

Yay, weekend is here

Daddy is back from work & eager to play with Baby Kara.

Mummy loves the weekend too! At least there's someone else to share the burden & someone to chat with. :)

MMS to Perk Up Daddy

Daddy is back in office so Mummy makes sure Baby Kara is dressed nicely after her bathe, takes a nice picture & MMS it to Daddy to perk up his day.

Baby Kara in pretty yellow Osh Kosh top & huge Winnie the Pooh socks on Thursday & sweet pink top & matching shorts on Friday, all thanks to frens for the gift!

Kara's Little Pillow

Frens who came by to visit were all suggesting that we should get a little bean pillow for Baby Kara.

Apparently it will give her comfort & security when placed on her chest, bringing her to deep slumber.

Daddy quickly went to buy one for her today before he returns to office tomorrow after a 2weeks+ paternity break.

Day 13 BF Progress

It's amazing newborn babies could survive on their reserves & very little BF as the nursing mum slowly build up her milk supply.

Apparently the capacity of an infant's stomach is only 10-12ml, increasing to 200ml by 12 months. Along with my increased milk supply, Baby Kara is also drinking more, up to 100ml per feed.

My best EBM to date - 100ml on one side!

Burping Time

One of Baby Kara cutest moment is burping after her feeds.

Jaundice No More

Jaundice in newborn babies is due to elevated level of the waste product bilirubin in the blood, caused by the baby's immature liver. Typically it will ease by the 10th day.

We're happy that the PD confirmed Baby Kara is no longer having Jaundice. Yay, no more suntans in the morning. :)

2nd good news, Baby Kara has hit 3kg! 3.04kg to be exact, meaning she's drinking well & definitely growing. :)

No Pain, No "Lose"

Most women lose around 4-7kg in the first 2 weeks after delivery (weight of baby, placenta & amniotic fluid). My weight loss unfortunately falls on the lower scale. :(

Toughest part of confinement is the massage & Jamu wrap. Massage is supposed to be relaxing & nice BUT I actually have a phobia for the daily massage. It's sooo painful & the jamu wrap makes my tummy feel so hot & itchy. Arrghh..

1 week old Kara

Things started to settle in within a week & now there's a routine & time to rest & relax in between feeds & diaper change.

Day 5 BF Progress

Transition Milk (4-10 days) started to kick in & could express slightly more than 50ml BM every 3 hours. Trying to establish the 3 hourly express & feeding routine.

Had the best night yesterday. Baby Kara only woke up once at 4.30am to drink & poo and she slept with a smile an hour later.

Learnt an expensive lesson last night though when I used the disposable milk storage bag. Spilled half of the EBM & was sooo heartache I cried!

Day 4 - Daddy @ Work

4th day - Daddy had to go office to settle some work. Baby Kara is happy after daddy helped to change diaper & daddy couldn't bear to leave Kara.

Baby Kara looking more & more like Mummy..

This is how sweet she looks after a fulfilling milky meal. Baby's happy time: you can tell your newborn is contented when she lays quietly on her own, watches your eyes, or the immediate surroundings.

Colostrum - Liquid GOLD

High in protein immunoglobulin & secreted in the first few days after delivery.

It is believed to aid the passing of meconium (the dark green liquid normally passed by newborn baby containing mucus, bile & epithelial cells).

Had a hard time BF. Wonder how others did it, especially those who BF up to 2 years! Was targeting to total BF for 6 months so nipple cream is my best friend now.

Our Prized Possession

~5hours delivery, 2 nights rest, plenty of well wishes from friends & we head home today with a prized possession in my arms. In the lift on the way to our car after discharge from TCM, there's a sense of pride as strangers smiled at our prized possession & said "she's soooo cute".

Blessed with well wishes from friends... Really thankful to everyone for the smses & taking time to visit us! Gerald & I & of course Baby Kara appreciated it lots! =)
